Litter production and leaf litter decomposition rate in secondary peat swamp forests in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia

Abstract Peat swamp forest is an important ecosystem in global climate change through its high carbon content and role as a sink. In peat forest, there near-closed cycle of nutrients including carbon. order to better understand the rate plant litter production decomposition, study was carried out three secondary forests Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. Litterfall collection undertaken using trap with samples collected every month first year two months thereafter between June 2018 2021. The decomposition assessed by measuring reduction dry weight at 3, 6, 12 24 months. At each sites, sets recently fallen litterfall were placed 25cm x mesh bags on soil surface assess rates under aerobic conditions, another depth 40 cm anaerobic conditions. Dry fresh decomposed determined months, total analyzed loss ignition method. results showed that about 9.52 ± 3.57 t ha −1 it followed seasonal pattern, higher season. exponential faster
